Survey of Pet Lemurs in Madagascar
Welcome to the Survey of Pet Lemurs of Madagascar website! This website provides information about a research program, developed by researchers at Conservation International and the University of Utah, that aims to collect information about the pet lemur trade in Madagascar. The program was launched on January 9th 2015 and continues to accept new submissions. In 2016, the project was expanded to include a more interactive website and outreach programming, with funding from National Geographic and the Margot Marsh Primate Action Fund. Data collected from this survey have been published in the American Journal of Primatology and Folia Primatologica. As of December 2017, we had received - or collected through on-the-ground surveys - information on over 1,200 sightings of pet lemurs in Madagascar.
